안녕하세요. KOLIS 회원 여러분

2011년을 시작한지도 얼마 안된 것 같은 느낌인데, 어느덧 한해를 마무리하는 시기가 다가왔습니다. KOLIS에서는 올해를 마무리하는 Annual Meeting을Roads to Academia and Industry라는 주제로11 월 12일 오후12시 부터 8시까지 UCSF Mission Bay Campus에 위치한 Rock Hall에서 개최합니다.

이번 미팅에서는 미국과 한국에서 대학과 기업에 계신  연사분들을 모시고, 포스트닥 이후의 커리어에 대한 다양한 경험과 정보를 나누는 시간을 가지려 합니다. 학계쪽의 연사로는 2002년 KOLIS 회장을 지내셨고 현재 Mayo Clinic College에 계시는 최두섭 교수님과 UCSF에서 방문교수로 계시는 조경상 교수님께서 각각 미국과 한국에서 교수채용 과정과 실험실 셋업 및 운영 등의 경험을 나누어 주실 예정입니다.

기업쪽의 연사로는 바이오니아를 설립하시고 CEO로 계시는 박한오 박사님과Siemens Healthcare Diagnostics에서 R&D Controller로 계시는 윤성진 님께서 한국과 베이 지역의 바이오 산업 현황과 Job Searching 및 Recruiting process에 대해서 말씀을 해 주실 예정입니다. 또한 UC Davis에 김희주 박사님께서는 대학과 기업간의 기술이전을 통한 아이디어의 상업화에 대한 개인적인 경험을 나누어 주실 예정입니다.  

연사분들 발표 이외에도 KOLIS 회원들의 포스터 발표를 통한 연구교류도 할 예정입니다. 포스터 발표를 해 주시는 모든 분들께는 소정의 기념품을 드릴 예정이며, Bioneer Poster Presentation Award도 수상할 예정이니 많은 참가 부탁 드립니다. 구체적인 일정은 확정되는대로 다시 알려 드리도록 하겠습니다.

Dear KOLIS members,

 

            I am pleased to have our annual KOLIS meeting at Mission campus of UC San Francisco on Nov. 12, 2011. In particular, this annual meeting is cosponsored by Bioneer, Inc. and KSEA (Korean-American Scientists and Engineers Association).

 

In this meeting, we will have five wonderful talks on the topic of “Roads to Academia and Industry” and a poster session to encourage scientific discussion and networking between members. For academic carrier paths, Dr. Doo-Sup Choi from Mayo Clinic College and Dr. Kyoung Sang Cho from Kun Kook University will share their personal experiences about being a principal investigator in academic institutes.

 

For industry carrier paths, Dr. Han Oh Park, founder and CEO of Bioneer, Inc. will give a talk on current status of biotechnology in Korea. Moreover, Sung Jin Yoon, MBA from Siemens Healthcare Diagnostics and Dr. Hee Joo Kim from UC Davis will share their knowledge experience on job search and recruiting process in industry and how to commercialize technology respectively. Therefore, I am confident that it will give us a good opportunity to think and discuss about our future carrier paths to academia or industry. I would like to thank all the speakers of this annual meeting. I hope that all the KOLIS members enjoy this meeting and learn their knowledge and experience which our speakers are willing to share.

 

For this meeting, supporters of 2011 KOLIS share their devotion and passion with us to make better KOLIS. On behalf of all the KOLIS members, I deeply appreciate support of Bioneer and KSEA for our annual meeting. In addition, I deeply would like to thank all speakers of this meeting. 

 

            Please come and get together this wonderful annual KOLIS meeting. It will be a great chance to meet your fellow researchers throughout the Bay area in this fall. I am looking forward to meeting all of you on coming Nov. 12, 2011 at UC San Francisco.
